Holding pattern

A holding pattern is a flight maneuver in which an aircraft flies in a circular or oval path while waiting for clearance to land or to proceed to the next phase of its flight. It can also refer to a situation where someone or something is in a temporary state of inactivity or delay, often while awaiting further instructions or developments.
